New Outlook drag and drop not working?

New Outlook broke drag and drop for emails and attachments. Magic Dragin brings it back.

Drop fails

You grab the file, drag toward the upload box, and nothing happens. New Outlook does not transfer a real file the way classic Outlook did.

Why drag and drop fails in new Outlook

Classic Outlook handed emails and attachments to other apps as real Windows files. New Outlook works more like a web app, so a drag that starts normally can reach a browser upload, CRM, or ticketing tool without a usable file.

Magic Dragin sits between the two worlds. It turns new Outlook's web-style drag into a native file drop.

Drop works

With Magic Dragin installed, attachments drop into browser uploads and desktop apps just like they used to.

The move to new Outlook

Microsoft is moving customers toward new Outlook, and many teams are already seeing it enabled by default. The new app offers faster search, a unified inbox for multiple accounts, Copilot features, and a more consistent experience across Windows, Mac, and the web. Magic Dragin helps preserve one critical workflow during the transition: dragging emails and attachments into the business apps your team already uses.

Microsoft's rollout timeline

Opt-out stage: New Outlook is currently in the opt-out stage for SMB, with EDU and Enterprise coming soon. In this stage, new Outlook is on by default, automatically bringing users into the new experience, but users can still switch back to classic Outlook if needed.

Cutover stage: Users will no longer be able to switch back to classic Outlook. New deployments of Outlook with Microsoft 365 subscriptions will feature new Outlook.

Classic Outlook support: Existing classic Outlook installations through perpetual and subscription licensing will continue to be supported until at least 2029.
