Security

Magic Dragin is designed to help you drag files from apps into other applications while keeping file contents local to your device. This page summarizes how the app handles temporary files, logs, telemetry, licensing, updates, and support diagnostics.

Last updated: June 11, 2026

File Handling

During a drop operation, Magic Dragin creates temporary files in the user’s temp directory. This is necessary because the drop target application needs a file path it can access. Those temporary drag files are kept available so the target application can finish reading them without interruption, then they are cleaned up on reboot.

This approach matches the pattern used by Chrome-based apps when dragging files out of the app or browser. For example, dragging a file from new Outlook to File Explorer without Magic Dragin uses the same general temporary-file scheme.

Local Processing and Storage

File drag processing happens locally on the user’s device. In addition to the temporary drag files described above, Magic Dragin writes logs and crash data to files under %APPDATA%\MagicDragin.

Metadata and Logs

Magic Dragin may process file paths and other metadata needed to complete drag and drop operations. File paths and other debugging or troubleshooting information may be written to log files under %APPDATA%\MagicDragin.

Network Communication

Magic Dragin establishes internet connections for product updates, license checks, and telemetry.

Updates

The app regularly checks for updates and installs them when available. No data is transmitted as part of these update checks.

Licensing

The app regularly checks for license updates, including updated expiration dates. The organization’s license ID is transmitted as part of this check.

Telemetry

Magic Dragin submits telemetry to help track errors and understand usage. Telemetry may include information such as operating system version, drag and drop counts, file types, file sizes, and drag source and target application names. Telemetry does not include file contents, file paths, or file names.

Error information may include internal application state and system error codes or messages. Telemetry is helpful for improving the product, and it can be disabled via a registry key if desired.

Remote Access

Magic Dragin does not include a remote access component. The manufacturer does not have remote access to the user’s system for support, diagnostics, or maintenance.

For support and troubleshooting, the app includes a tray menu option at Help > Collect support files. This creates a single .zip file containing logs, which the user can choose to send to support manually.
